Projects & Stories
We currently only have one project going and it happens to be our first! Why not join
our list of volunteers or donors and help out! If you are interested, please contact us.
First House
Our first house is going up at 517-521 North Indiana.
Here is the foundation and crawl space for our house. We have since laid the floor and
are in the process of gathering materials to get started on the walls. If you can help us,
in either a monetary way or a volunteer manor, please contact us.
Ground breaking took place on October 20, 2007. The soon to be owners, DeJuan
and Celeste along with Mr. Dale Tolly and Julianne Adams from Kankakee Habitat for
Humanity broke ground to make room for their new home.
Obviously the walls have started going up! We had a good size group show up for the
wall raising on December 1, 2007. What a great way to start the holiday season!
There were 26 who braved the snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain that day to get the
exterior walls up. See, it isn't just mailmen and women who brave the weather, it's also
caring people helping others in need by building a home! THANK YOU!
Well, the house is officially enclosed, and just in the Nick of time, I might add, as it
happened just before the holiday happenings set in for everyone. Windows and doors
are in and the roof is up awaiting the paper and shingles. Shingles have been done
for awhile, along with the siding. Even the inside is coming along. The drywall is hung,
spackled (mudded), taped and primed. I even believe that the paint has begun to dry!
Cabinets are going in and the inside is bustling with the noise of interior renovation.
Pictures soon to come.
