Welcome to Habitat for Humanity's (HFH) Kankakee County website. This page will give some basic background information on Habitat for Humanity and its' origins. Habitat for Humanity (HFH) International is a nonprofit, faith-based organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide, and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action.
Habitat for Humanity of Kankakee County relies on hundreds of volunteers every year to carry out our vision – creating a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Our volunteers assist with everything from answering phones to hanging drywall, graphic design to real estate acquisition. Whether an individual, organization or group, seeking a one-time experience or regular commitment, Habitat has the volunteer opportunity that is right for you!
Without the support of many individuals and buisness Habitat for Humanity of Kankakee County would not be able to provide decent, affordable houses to families in need. The generous donations provided by our community help us our continue our mission each year.
The vision of Habitat for Humanity is to provide a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat for Humanity of Kankakee County is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God's love into action by building homes, communities and hope. At Habitat for Humanity of Kankakee we live and breath this everyday and welcome volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds to serve those in need of decent housing, regardless of race or religion.
In 2014, Habitat for Humanity of Kankakee County completed our 6th partner family home in Kankakee, Illinois. It took the hard work and dedication of many volunteers as well as the generous donations of multiple area businesses and organizations. Thanks to you a deserving family now has an affordable, decent place to call home. Our partner families are chosen through a stringent selection process and must show both need and commitment.
All of this is not possible without generous man hours provided by the selfless volunteers of Kankakee County. Habitat for Humanity of Kankakee County began work on our 7th partner family home in 2015. If you or your organization would like to be involved in this exciting venture please contact us or register to become a habitat volunteer.
